Mitchell took a photography class back when he was at TCC. We still have the textbook he used, A Short Course in Digital Photography, so I pulled it out. It really is short, so I figured I can just kind of work through it. It even has little projects to do.
The first project is just to go out and take some pictures in different settings and then kind of analyze them. It suggested taking photos of subjects near and far, inside and outside, in the shade and in the sun, as well as taking portraits, landscapes, and actions shots. I didn't do all of that, but I did go around and take some pictures. I'm using the camera on my phone because it's actually better than the point and shoot that we have. If I take well to photography, we will eventually invest in a better camera.
Here are my photos from today:
Charlie. This is kinda blurry, but he was moving a lot.
This was a comparison photo that I took with the auto settings on my camera before taking a bunch with adjusted settings. I'm not going to post any of the others. I didn't know that the camera would show such great detail... my car is dirty!
Mitchell drawing. I kinda like the way the light is hitting his head and the blur of his hands and sketchbook.
I don't like this one quite as much.
Joseph playing in his room. I wanted to try getting far away, but the room is so messy that it's hard to find him.
Our house and car. There really isn't anything special about this photo.
Just a dandelion. I wanted to try coming at a different angle, but it blurred the actual flower. Maybe I was too close. But I do like the way the crack between the grass and concrete looks.
I like the focus on the dandelion better here, but I don't feel like the picture is very interesting.
The airplane on the playground. It seems very dark and flat in this photo, but I do like the way that the airplane is just a bit above the center line of the photo.
